Drive bys for February 10, 2020

* Someone posted this article from the Wall Street Journal from a month ago on FB today, and I read it. I admit I was shocked, but not surprised. I shook my head reading how Mayor Pete did not undergo basic training, did a desk job in the states, and in Afghanistan, was not in any battles or anything significant, other than driving some other soldiers around in and near the military base in which he served. What it all looks like is part of a lifelong plan to check boxes to run for office in a corporate media driven world, long on status and resume building, short on policy understanding. Les Grossman (Tropic Thunder) would be proud of this playa.

* So I guess it is illegal in New Hampshire to hand out a flyer at an outside political event held on a public campus? That is a new one to me, but I know CA has always had much more favorable laws for free speech above federal rights. But even under basic modern First Amendment jurisprudence, I think handing out the flyer is legal. Weird. And boo on Mayor Pete's campaign (I am not gonna blame Pete on this one unless I hear more) for acting in a non-transparent and potentially illegal manner.

* Anyone watching CNN or MSDNC to see if Mike Bloomberg's age is ever mentioned in any way, especially a negative one?  Mike Bloomberg was born on February 14, 1942 (Happy 78th Birthday this week, Mike).  Bernie was born on September 8, 1941, which makes Bernie 5 months older than Bloomberg.  The silence about Bloomberg's age is deeply telling.  Perhaps because Bloomberg's birthday is this Friday, we may finally hear something, but it won't be that he is too old to run for president, the way that mantra was repeated daily when Bernie announced his 2020 presidential primary candidacy.

* Oh, and I guess a certain young woman Congressperson was not the cause of Amazon pulling out of the NY deal after all.  Oh, what a surprise.  This was all known at the time, but I am glad someone at Bloomberg News Service decided to recheck their facts and publish an article now disseminated to other newspapers.

* I am happy "Parasite" won the Oscar for Best Picture and direction.  I am doubly happy Taika Watiti won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.  He is a gem.  He also has Maorian and Jewish cultural heritages, which may have influenced his wonderfully creative thinking and understanding of human justice.
